Movement is sexy!

There is something mesmerising about watching the scapulas (shoulder blades) moving full range.
Feeling them moving is quite a trip too.
Each scapular has 17 muscles attached to it which makes them play a very important role in our quality of movement.
Being hunter gatherers, we need our shoulders to be strong and mobile in order to throw spears during a hunt, and to reach for foods and gather materials etc.
So, injuries to the shoulder can have a very primal affect on us.
When you think about it, if you are unable to hunt, gather or even bring food to your mouth to eat, you are in danger!
Even though we live in a world where food is plentiful and we no longer need to throw a spear in order to have food, our primal brain is still hardwired to sense for danger.

Can you move them independently?
Do you feel a difference in them or do they both move the same?
Are you connected to one more than the other?
What comes up for you as you move your shoulders?
Shoulders harbour emotions and memories and when left unacknowledged, what started as a whisper becomes a screaming injury.
Before reaching for a textbook, move your shoulders slowly, with full intention of connecting to the quality of the movement.
Do you feel them glide smoothly?
Do they feel gritty and grindy or do you feel nothing at all?
Feel into them and ask yourself what is coming up for you.
YOU KNOW YOUR BODY BETTER than ANYONE ELSE!
If you feel grit and grind, ask yourself:
โWhat am I holding here that I have not addressed or that no longer serves me?โ,
โWhat is making me feel stuck?โ,
โWhat donโt I like or agree with right now?โ
Then focus on quality movement to smooth it out .
If you feel nothing at all, like a sense of emptiness in that area, ask yourself:
โWhat have I disconnected myself from?โ,
โWhat am I afraid to feel?โ
Then move slowly and tune into making a physical sensory connection.
